By making the process of decarbonizing a home more familiar, we are demystifying it and making it more public and accessible. Electrify DC aims to provide one active demonstration site per DC neighborhood, in a building typology common for that neighborhood, in high-visibility and high-traffic locations, at different stages of decarbonization, so neighbors and communities can learn and become more comfortable with the process.
“The climate-related actions of trusted friends, relatives, and neighbors can have a profound effect on the people around them.” See this article by the Climate Coach Michael J. Coren
If you are an early adopter, consider sharing your journey with your neighborhood by joining Electrify DC’s demonstration sites program. Electrify DC will provide pointers to local government grants and programs, connections with contractors, and know-how. We will support you in engaging your community through open houses, presentations, and social media.
As a demonstration site host, you:
Blog and post monthly about where you are, why you are thinking of decarbonizing and electrifying, how you are approaching it, what worked, and what did not including pictures of your home, kids, and pets.
Place signage in your yard explaining what you are doing and pointing passerbys to resources.
Host a few neighborhood/ANC/community association/electrified house tour events where people visit your home to see and ask questions.
If you want your home to become one of Electrify DC’s demonstration sites, tell us more about you and your home by completing this form.

“We have radiators. All of our neighborhood has radiators. We are going to need a lot of info to switch to heat pumps. And a lot of wine and cheese to share that info with our neighbors.”
— Lee, Capitol Hill homeowner, father of three
“Can our first post be about how much I hate the smell of gas? ;-)”
— Nicole, Petworth homeowner, mother of three
“If our journey can be helpful to all the families that drop off their kids at the school across the road, we would gladly become a demonstration site!”
— Kim, owner of a rambler in Brightwood
We are growing our community of demonstration sites. Tell us more about your home here if you are ready to show off your electrification journey and help others see what’s possible.
