This year, Electrify DC is launching Power Shift: A DER Showcase, a policy-focused companion event taking place from 8am to 1pm before the Fair. The showcase aims to accelerate the shift toward community-based power (or Distributed Energy Resources/DERs) as a tool to increase energy affordability, stabilize the grid, and help residents participate in the energy market. You’ll see first hand innovations such as battery-enabled appliances, smart breakers that can help skip costly service upgrades, and bidirectional EV charging. The event will feature former Federal Energy Regulatory Commissioner Allison Clements, and a panel on energy affordability moderated by Washington Post energy reporter Nicolás Rivero, with Maryland Public Counsel David Lapp, homeowners, and renters.
Scholarships are available, and students and Fair volunteers (see below) attend for free.
