We work with homeowners and renters, building renovation professionals, manufacturers, and local governments.

Our Organization

We are a 501c3 incorporated in the District of Columbia as Electrify DC, DBA Electrify DMV and incorporated in Maryland as Electrify DMV.

Same nonprofit organization, same DC region staff, same DC region mission.

Our Story

In May of 2023 Electrify DC was co-founded by a fifth generation Washingtonian electrical contractor and a DC transplant with international experience determined to make home electrification easier for both homeowners and professionals.

In August of 2023, Romita Biswas joined the organization bringing to Electrify DC the technical competencies to look at the issue from an electrical grid perspective.

We have been hard at work ever since. See chronology below.

October 2023 We were awarded by the Department of Energy and Environment a grant to study how much energy could be discharged from our homes to the District's electrical grid.

April of 2024 We hosted the first Healthy Homes Fair at the DC Armory which had both long lines and reporters from the Washington Post.

May 2024 We first convened a group of DC region manufacturers, government officials and service providers (now known as the Electrify DMV Network) and determined the three main priorities for accelerate residential electrification in the region.

October 2024 We presented on Distributed Energy Resources at the DC Public Service Commission's Energy Summit.

November 2024 We opened our first Demonstration Home which was written up by Atlas Policy.

December 2024 We were awarded a grant by the Maryland Energy Administration to build capacity with our partners at the Latino Economic Development Center and engage homeowners about electrification.

January 2025 Vanessa Bertelli becomes the nonprofit mayoral appointee to the Green Building Advisory Council.

March 2025 We were presented the District Sustainability Award for our work to eliminate the 25% of emissions that come from our homes.

May 2025 We hosted the second Healthy Homes Fair at Catholic University attracting over 1,500 people from across the DC region.

August 2025 We were awarded an EPA Region 3 Thriving Communities Grant to, among other things, support the Electrify DMV Network.

September 2025 We hosted SunDay in DC in partnership with the best nonprofits in DC.

October 2025 We released a set of recommendations based on our study of the DC grid.

October 2025 We provided fiscal sponsorship to the electrification coaches at Go Electric DMV adding them as one of our programs.

December 2025 The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments contracted us to engage its 24 jurisdictions on a Homeowners' Hub for the region.

March 2026 We hosted the third Healthy Homes Fair, adding a popular EV show component and the DER Showcase.

June 2026 We brought together 32 partners from across the country to bid on a neighborhood scale electrification planning grant.

July 2026 We begun leading the Energy Affordability Task Force together with Pepco and Utilize Coalition.

August 2026 We expanded our governing board to ten members.
